FEATURED PROJECTS & INITIATIVES Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments in La Oroya and for the Port at Callao, Peru (2008-2009)Working with local partners, Intrinsik recently completed two human health and ecological risk assessments in Peru. One was the area surrounding the Doe Run smelter in La Oroya where there has been more than 85 years of mining and smelting. The other was the Port of Callao (Lima) where mineral concentrates were imported, stored and exported for more than 50 years. This history of mining and smelting has resulted in significant impact to human health and the environment around both sites. The risk assessments were needed to understand where remediation was necessary, and the magnitude of the remediation.
